Employee Relations Specialist
£21.64 per hour

Our client is looking for an experienced Employee Relations Specialist.

To provide guidance and support to staff and managers on a range of casework and deal
with employee relations matters, ensuring legislative requirements are met and sound
employee relations are facilitated and promoted. Support the development of managers
in people management through coaching and HR training as appropriate.

To promote effective working relationships with trade unions and the workforce by
resolving issues in a consistent, fair and effective manner, in accordance with HR best
practice on all aspects of employee relations work.
To advise managers on the management of sickness absence policy and liaise with the
Occupational Health Service and external welfare providers on individual cases. Attend
and advise at sickness panel meetings for Service areas.
Be responsible for developing and delivering regular HR workshops and briefing
sessions, on best management practices, employee relations, employment law and
HR policy/procedure in order to build management capability.
To maintain a good understanding of Safeguarding and to offer advice and support to
managers in regard to employee relations matters in relation to safeguarding issues,
where applicable.
CIPD membership or equivalent
• Experience of working within an HR environment in
a Local Government or public sector setting
• Experience of working in a complex, multisite,
unionised environment.
• Experience of advising on organisational change
projects, including restructures and redundancies
• Successful track record in dealing with complex
employee relations issues
• Working in partnership with multiple Trade union
• Sound knowledge of employee relations issues,
including policies and procedures relating to
employee disputes, disciplines and grievances
• Excellent working knowledge of employment law,
ET claims, best practice and the ability to apply it
practically to workplace situations
• Sound knowledge and understanding of equality
and diversity issues
• Knowledge of developing effective training
materials, presentations and delivering HR
• An understanding of Safeguarding in regard to
employee relations matters
• Good ICT skills Microsoft office and specialist
Systems Skills
• Ability to coach and support managers in all
aspects of people management, building trust and
confidence quickly. Giving advice and developing
solutions to people problems within a framework of
risk management, tailored to the objectives and
working practices of the area.
