How can you prepare for answering common job interview questions?

No matter which job you are applying for, in any industry, there are some questions that are likely to be asked again and again. Some of these include difficult or tricky questions that can be difficult to gauge. These include:

  • What are your biggest weaknesses? This question is designed to through you off balance but its been around so long that most candidates know how to answer, or have an answer pre-prepared, that usually involves naming a weaknesses that is really just a positive in disguise. However, being honest about your short-comings, and showing how you are overcoming this, can be more refreshing and make more of a memorable impact on your interviewer.
  • Where do you see yourself in five years? It can be difficult to answer this question, especially if you aren’t burning with ambition! While many people might use this opportunity to show a strong work ethic, by listing the promotions they might want to achieve, others might use this opportunity for a “humble brag” (I’d just like to use my talents and see where they take me, etc). Bring honest about your ambitions is the best thing to do here, don’t emphasize your ambition if you aren’t career focused, and dont negate your ambition if you are.
  • What could you bring to the job role? This question might seem like you simply need to list your strengths, but for a more memorable and effective answer, you should be sure to link your strengths to the actual job role itself. This shows a thorough understanding of what the job entails, and why you would be a good fit.
